You’ve taken the plunge and started your own business! Now, to help you get started here are some helpful resources to make your small business dreams a reality. I often get asked questions about my favorite business things, like email marketing, web design courses, favorite templates, and business resources. So here in one fell swoop is a hand-picked selection of my most frequently used and favorite products and services that I rely on — often daily — in my own business.

Squarespace (website builder)
Squarespace* is (obvi) my go-to platform for building and managing websites, providing a great solution that covers design, SEO functionality, and e-commerce options.
I use Squarespace for myself and for all of my clients.

Moxie (freelancer CRM)
Moxie* is a CRM (like HoneyBook, Dubsado, etc), but actually built for freelancers and solopreneurs. I keep on waiting for Moxie to disappoint me, but it hasn’t yet. It has everything you need to run your business: proposals, contracts, invoicing, scheduling links, client communication, project management, time tracking, CRM, and even a customizable client portal. Really good customer support. $20/month.

Novo Bank (business banking)
Novo* is an online business banking account with no in-person branches. I opened my first account in 2020 and have been a happy customer since.
One of my favorite things is the ability to create ‘reserves’, or the envelope system (for those of you who have read Profit First, you’ll be able to sort all your income into corresponding reserves.)

Termageddon (website legal policies)
Termageddon* specializes in helping website owners ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations by providing a comprehensive and automated privacy policy generator. I use their legal pages for my own website, as well as recommend them to my web design clients.

Kit (email marketing)
Kit* (formerly ConvertKit) is an email marketing tool with robust offerings like visual automations, welcome sequences, and tags and segment. It’s also user-friendly and easy to navigate.
This is the platform to use is you value functionality, automations, workflows and ease.

Google Workspace (email, meeting, docs, etc)
I’ve used the Google Workspace Suite* for multiple businesses of mine. It’s easy to use and they keep adding functionality.
One of my favorite things is the ability to have multiple ‘aliases’, so you can have email addresses like ‘support’, ‘hello’, ‘info’ @ your domain …perfect for solopreneurs!

Canva (design)
I use Canva every single day. Canva is my ride or die. From blog graphics to website images to infographics to freebie designs, Canva Pro is truly one of my most valuable subscriptions.
There’s a pretty good free subscription option available too.

Loom (video tutorials)
I use Loom to record both short and in-depth training videos for my clients.
I also use it record quick tutorials for my clients and for how-to blog posts. You can sign up for free and get 5 minutes videos, which totally hits the spot when you’re just getting started.

Teachery (course platform)
Teachery* is a course platform that lets you build and sell courses, digital products, workshops, memberships and more. It’s simple, easy to use, and adaptable to fit a lot of different needs.

Color Buddy (free Chrome extention)
This chrome extension allows you to create and save multiple color palettes for different projects or clients.
I've been using Color Buddy* (from The Color Palette Studio) for over a year now, and it's one of those tools that makes me wonder how I lived without it. I use it literally every single day for my own brand colors and for other projects and clients.

Will Meyer: both free and affordable Squarespace plug-ins, plus he offers a coding academy
Inside the Square: Becca at Inside the Square offers a ton of free Squarespace CSS help, and has a great YouTube library of tutorials as well.
ChatGPT - honestly, in a pinch, ChatGPT has helped troubleshoot a grip of my coding issues and questions.
